In order to qualify for Social Security Disability benefits you must have worked in a job or jobs that were covered by Social Security; in other words, you must have worked in jobs where Social Security was deducted from your paychecks. Also, your must have worked long enough – and recently enough – under Social Security to qualify for benefits. Then, you must complete a number of forms that will ask you describe your impairment(s), what doctors are treating you for your impairment(s), and other information such as your age, employment history, marital status, etc. Once you have compiled this information, it is sent to your local Disability Determination Services Office (DDSs) so that the information can be verified. Your DDSs office is the office that decides whether or not you qualify for Disability Benefits.
